Blizzard may have backed themselves into a corner by trying to please everyone. (2025)

So I wanna talk about Blizzard,
Wow Gear,
Progress,
Item upgrades,
Delves,
Weekly Vault,
and M+.

I'm starting to think that the way blizzard are doing things now seems to have backed them into a corner where they can't really do anything new without it either feeling Mandatory, or completely useless.

First of all I want to make it pretty clear this is a player issue. Nobody seems to play the game for fun anymore and it's all just about power levelling, min maxing and getting cutting edge or AOTC each season depending on the level at which you like to raid.

This has come from blizzard trying to please everyone,

First they made gear mostly just about getting a higher item level, there's never the feeling of hunting down a particular piece of gear anymore it's all just whatever is higher wins most of the time with very few exceptions. They then made the problem worse by adding in item upgrades.

In theory all these things are great, but they cause one issue.. People only want to do the content that gets them the best gear, after that they don't need and wont do it anymore.

Because of this new content such as delves don't really seem to have a place once they become obselete, but you can't give them top end gear without the higher end players complaining that they feel mandatory....

So how do you solve this issue?.. It used to be solved by limiting how much you can do of any given content, but now we have M+, an unlimited fountain of gear that can also be used to upgrade items that you already have.

This is where I think Blizzard have really screwed themselves, at the start of a season people spam M+ get a TON of upgrade currency, and a powerful item in their vault.... This means.. Immediately delves are going to be useless.

I think the solution is simple.

Get rid of the weekly vault.

I fully understand that this will not be popular. But lets be SUPER real here... the vaults really do not offer that much. The entire need for the vault could be straight up removed if we just had a system where you could target an item you want, and each time you kill a boss mob in any content it counts as progress towards the item and when you finish you will get the highest level of that item. The difficulty of the content would directly correlate with the amount of points you get toward the item.

It removes the luck aspect from the vault and you can choose to work toward it at your own pace or smash it out in a single day if you went hard enough (lets say for a myth track item... 200 M+2 or 15 M+20, less if you can push... higher... (ballpark numbers). To be clear this would be something that you work towards and could take you as long as you wanted but would be limited to one piece a week if you were going hard.

And you can work towards this item doing any content you like, world quests, heroics, delves, M+, raiding. Naturally the harder the content the faster you will complete your work towards the item. But the idea is to encourage players to take part in content they enjoy over taking part in content they feel forced to endure so they can do content they enjoy.

This system maintains the value of doing M+ while also making it a non-mandatory edition to playing for people who don't enjoy it.

EDIT:

More explaination of what I mean

Points needed to get a Myth 4/4 piece - 5000

WQ - 15
Normal Dungeon boss - 20
Heroic Dungeon boss - 30
Mythic 0 Dungeon Boss - 40
Mythic+ 2 - 5 Completion - 200
Mythic+ 5 - 10 Completion - 240
Mythic+ 10 - 14 Completion - 280
Mythic+ 15 - 19 Completion - 320
Mythic+ 20 - 24 Completion - 360
Mythic+ 25+ Completion - 400
Normal Raid Boss - 40
Heroic Raid Boss - 100
Mythic Raid Boss - 200

Delves would also be able to offer up to 320 per delve on the hardest difficulty

How it works:

On Tuesday after reset you pick the item you want to work towards.

The item starts at the lowest upgrade level Explorer 1/8.
Each activity above will channel power into your chosen item and every 200 points it will gain an upgrade level.

You need 5000 points to get the item to Myth 4/4

You may only select 1 item per week
You can "pull" the item ANY time once you have done at least 1 activity.
You can work on an item for as long as you want, even multiple weeks. This means that given time even solo players and casuals can get a myth item.

Once you pull the item you are stuck with what you pulled, if you want the better version of the item you'll have to level it again.

Blizzard may have backed themselves into a corner by trying to please everyone. (2025)
